Inspired by the New York School of Abstract Expressionism, Pixels and Paint examines my fascination with the nature of time in art, and the properties of surfaces and canvases as mediums of expression. This first started with my portraits of people with tattoos for The Tattoo Project and the documentary film, The Vanishing Tattoo. The use of skin as a canvas for artistic expression utterly intrigues me. Most archeological and anthropological evidence suggests that the human body was the first canvas and the first vehicle of expression for the human impulse to create art.
